Locating your Graduate during the Ceremony

Locating your Graduate during the Ceremony

Each graduating student and presenting faculty member seated on the floor of the ARC Pavilion is sent an email with a unique Position Assignment that determines when they will be called to the stage.  The Position Assignment includes a letter that corresponds to one of four sections (A, B, C, or D) and a number between 1 and 255 (for example B–100).

The Doctoral line-up is generally arranged in alphabetical order by faculty last name.  The Doctoral students and their faculty presenters are assigned to sections A, B, and C.

The Master's line-up is generally arranged in alphabetical order by graduate program name.  M.F.A. and Masters students and their faculty presenters are assigned to sections C and D.

Each section (A, B, C, and D) consists of approximately 23 rows of twelve chairs.  Based on each graduating student's unique Position Assignment, you can determine their seating section using this table:

Graduating students are called to the stage in order by section and then by number, A-1 through D-255.  As shown in the below picture, section A is on the east side of the Pavilion floor and row 1 is closest to the stage. When it is time, a host in a blue robe will direct each row as to when to approach the stage. By knowing your graduating student's Position Assignment and following the progression of sections being called to the stage, you can locate your graduate during the Ceremony.
