Strategic Plan

Advancing Graduate Education: The Strategy for 2021-2026

A new five-year strategic plan for UC Davis Graduate Studies.

In 2016, UC Davis Graduate Studies embarked on a six-month strategic planning process to guide the department’s activities and growth over a three-year period. Four priorities emerged, which together promote an inclusive, diverse environment and a culture of communication, respect, support and academic excellence. The resulting document, Envisioning Excellence: UC Davis 2016-2019 Strategic Plan, guided the division’s activities, initiatives, and investments.

A task force was formed to develop a new plan in Fall 2019, but efforts were paused in mid-2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The next era of Graduate Studies’ history will be defined by recovery, growth, and new solutions, and our community must reconvene to map out the path forward. Building upon the efforts of the previous task force, this newly-formed committee is charged with developing a five-year strategic plan (2021-2026) for Graduate Studies that outlines the division's strategic actions and priorities. The plan will guide Graduate Studies staff and inform division and campus leadership on investments and decisions for graduate education in the coming years. The plan will provide a clear understanding of:

We will work collaboratively, and engage with students, postdoctoral scholars, faculty, staff, and organizations across the University. These perspectives will help the task force develop and create a set of priorities that position UC Davis Graduate Studies to best support graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in a rapidly changing environment.

As we move toward the implementation of a new strategic plan, your expertise, commitment and immersive engagement are critical. We need your input - it is essential for our collective success!

Share Your Feedback

This Spring, Graduate Studies will invite graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, faculty, and staff to share their thoughts about our strategic plan. Your feedback and ideas will help shape our future services, resources, initiatives, and priorities. We value your opinion and feel strongly that incorporating your input will make our strategic planning process both effective and relevant.

Submit a Question, Comment, or Suggestion

In addition to the feedback, members of the strategic planning task force are holding community conversations with small groups of graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, faculty, and staff to gather your thoughts concerning the future of graduate education at UC Davis. This survey will give our students, scholars, and partners an additional opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions.

Please ask questions or share your thoughts via our strategic plan feedback form. A member of the Strategic Planning Task Force will respond to your submission.
