UC Davis Names 4 New Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellows
UC Davis has recognized four postdoctoral scholars and their diversity-focused research interests with UC Davis Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowships.
The fellowship program offers postdoctoral research fellowships and faculty mentoring to outstanding scholars in all fields whose research, teaching and service will contribute to the diversity and equal opportunity at the University of California.
These contributions may include public service addressing the needs of our increasingly diverse society, efforts to advance equitable access to higher education, or research focusing on underserved populations or understanding inequalities related to race, gender, disability or LGBT.
Established in 1984, the fellowship program was bolstered by a $5 million commitment from the University of California Office of the President in 2013. The strengthened program was designed to encourage diversity among faculty and scholars and provide research opportunity and career development for scholars whose work will enhance the diversity of the academic community.
Each year, the program seeks applicants with the potential to bring to their academic careers the critical perspective that comes from their non-traditional educational background or understanding of the experiences of members of groups historically underrepresented in higher education.
“The scholars in this year’s pool were exceptionally inspiring both in terms of their research acumen and their passion for helping students understand and address diversity in their fields,” said Andrew Waterhouse, fellowship committee member and Associate Dean of Graduate Programs at UC Davis. “We look forward to following these Fellows over the next couple of years to watch their impact.”
