Grad Slam Returns to UC Davis

UC Davis Graduate Studies is pleased to announce the return of the University of California’s research communication competition, Grad Slam. Now in its fourth year, Grad Slam is an annual contest in which master’s and Ph.D. students across UC campuses – in disciplines ranging from hard sciences to humanities – compete to sum up their research for a general audience.

You’ll recall that last year, we received record-breaking 87 registrations for the UC Davis Grad Slam Qualifying Round – doubling both our total number of overall applications and our participants in humanities, arts, and social sciences applications year over year.

This year, we’re issuing a Grad Slam Challenge to the campus community - and we need the help of the campus community. We want to see at least one representative from each of our 99 graduate programs at our February 8 qualifying round. Registration opened earlier today and will close on January 19.

UC Davis faculty and staff are invited to join our panel of judges for our February 8 Qualifying Round at the Student Community Center. Join us for an hour and help us assess the students’ three-minute presentations. Since the participants are charged with summing up their research for a general audience, teaching or research experience is not required to judge. Not only does your participation demonstrate UC Davis’ commitment to academic excellence, it’s also a lot of fun. If you’re willing and able to serve as a judge, please fill out this short form and indicate your availability. You’re welcome to sign up for one slot, or for multiple judging sessions.
