The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is a program of the U.S. Department of State, funded by an annual appropriation from the U.S. Congress to the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and supported in its implementation by the Institute of International Education.

Grace Ha is an ecology graduate student studying camouflage in seagrass beds. Ha performs field experiments to understand the survival rates of prey species in different colored habitats.

Graduate Studies is carefully monitoring the impact of the partial federal shutdown on graduate students and postdoctoral scholars supported by federal funding. We anticipate that new awards, funding increments, payments, and prior approvals will not be forthcoming from the impacted agencies under a shutdown. However, if you are applying for a grant, please submit your application by the deadline published in the funding opportunity announcement, regardless of the status of the government shutdown.

Jean-Pierre “JP” Delplanque, who has been serving as interim vice provost and dean of Graduate Studies since July, has been appointed to the post on a permanent basis by Chancellor Gary S. May. The appointment, effective Jan. 1, follows a campuswide recruitment and a selection process that included public forums with the candidates.

Claudio Monteza-Moreno is a student in the Animal Behavior Graduate Group. His UC Davis journey started in Panama, where he worked as a naturalist guide for the Smithsonian Institute. He's studied tool use in non-human primates and his thesis research concerns animal movements in reforested areas.

The Young Scientist Program is dedicated to bringing STEM education to underserved communities. Launched 2014, it's grown from a one-person outfit to one supported by nearly 100 UC Davis student volunteers
