Welcome to the 2022-23 Academic Year

Dear Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars,

Welcome to the start of the 2022-23 academic year!

There is always a buzz of excitement associated with the start of a new school year. This year, I’m especially mindful and appreciative of our UC Davis community.

The community at UC Davis is often the determining factor as to why people choose to pursue their master’s or doctor’s degrees or postdoctoral experience here. It is welcoming, friendly, collaborative, and supportive.

I expect you have found this to be true as you’ve started to meet people within your department, lab or graduate group. While it may be comfortable to just stay within that cohort, I want to encourage you to branch out even more.

Invest in building your mentoring network. Get involved in our Graduate Student Association or Postdoctoral Scholars Association. Pursue one of our numerous professional development programs. Visit the Graduate Center at Walker Hall—a space just for you, our graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. There is so much available to you at UC Davis.

We, at Graduate Studies, are also part of your UC Davis community, of course. We are here to help connect you with resources that will allow you to take charge of your education and make the most out of your graduate student and postdoctoral experience at UC Davis.

So, as you embark on this new academic year, remember that you have a tremendous group of people who are all here to support you as you pursue your goal of earning an advanced degree or acquiring postdoctoral research training at UC Davis.

Best,

Jean-Pierre Delplanque
