About External Fellowships
External fellowships are those offered by private foundations, government agencies, and corporations. A variety of support is given, from one-time awards to multi-year support. Grants are available at every stage of the graduate and postdoc career and applying for grants should be a component of every individual development plan.
The External Fellowships Analysts help facilitate the external fellowships process, from pre-award application review to award closeout. When students receive external fellowships, our office will help to review the financial support package and is coordinated to ensure that all costs remain fully covered, and that all activities–including assistantships and student employment–align with University and fellowship guidelines.

Please contact your analyst any time you apply for external funding or receive an award notice. We require applicants to contact their external analyst at least five business days before the sponsor deadline for review services.

If you are receiving an external award where all or partial support of the award is paid direct to to the awardee, you must notify both your Graduate Program Coordinator and your respective external fellowship analyst.
