Why UC Davis?

Standout Academics and a Northern California Lifestyle

At UC Davis, we are more than just a campus. Our graduate students and faculty are a strong community brought together by boundless curiosity, collaborative spirit and dynamic ability.

UC Davis is the home of the Aggies — go-getters, change makers and problem solvers who make their mark at one of the top public universities in the United States.

Since our founding in 1905, we’ve become globally renowned for standout academics, sustainability, and establishing Aggie Pride as a feature of the Northern California lifestyle. These themes are woven into our 100-plus-year history and our reputation for developing solutions related to health, food, agriculture, the environment, and society.

Our 5,300-acre campus is in the city of Davis, a vibrant college town of about 68,000 located in Yolo County. The state capital, Sacramento, is only a 20-minute drive away, and world-class destinations such as the San Francisco Bay Area, Lake Tahoe, and the Napa Valley are within a two-hour drive.

Breadth of Viewpoints, Backgrounds, and Experiences

UC Davis values the unique viewpoints, backgrounds, and experiences students share on our campus as these strengthen and enrich our research, scholarship, and teaching. Our academic community believes that an expansive breadth of perspective among our graduate student population integrally enhances the academic experiences for all.

We are committed to establishing a learning, teaching, working campus environment that encourages and supports both the individual and collaborative success of all graduate scholars, faculty, and staff professionals as valued colleagues in an inclusive graduate education community.
