Join Us for a Pre-Construction Tour of Walker Hall
The Walker Hall renewal and seismic correction project is scheduled to begin in mid-February and will transform the historic building into the Graduate Center by 2020.
Originally known as the Agricultural Engineering building, Walker Hall was built in 1928. Over the course of its existence, Walker Hall has housed the Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Design, Landscape Design, Environmental Design and Landscape Architecture departments. The building has been known by many nicknames, including the Design Building, the Walker Engineering Building and the Engineering Building.
The building was decommissioned in late 2011 and the renovation project will complete seismic, accessibility, and other life safety and building mechanical improvements to renovate Walker Hall.
Situated near the library and the Student Community Center, the new Graduate Center will provide a rich, multidisciplinary learning environment and will include designated spaces, services and programming that will enhance the graduate student and postdoctoral scholar experience at UC Davis. The renewal of the historic building will make room for new classroom, study and social spaces for the graduate education community, as well as office space for Graduate Studies staff and leadership. The Graduate Center at Walker Hall will serve as the new home of the Graduate Student Association (GSA) and the Postdoctoral Scholar Association (PSA).
Members of the UC Davis graduate education community are welcome to join Graduate Studies for a tour of the facility on February 2 at 1:00 pm. Please note that no food or drink will be allowed inside the building and participants must wear closed-toe shoes.
