Co-Created and Managed by Grad Students, Sustainable Aggie Reuse Store Celebrates First Anniversary

The UC Davis Aggie Reuse Store has been providing students with low cost goods for a year now. The store, which aims to increase the awareness of creative alternatives for waste, was created by Design professor Ann Savageau, Design graduate student Carol Shu, Textiles and Clothing graduate student Margot Bennett, and Associated Student Senator Darwin Moosavi. The resale store, which exists entirely from donations, is located on the first floor of the Memorial Union and serves as an example of UC Davis' commitment to environmental awareness and sustainability.

First Provost's Fellowships Go to 50 UC Davis Graduate Students

The inaugural awards ceremony for the UC Davis Provost's Fellowships in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, a new major fellowship initiative that supports UC Davis Ph.D. and M.F.A. students, took place on November 15, 2012 in the UC Davis Student Community Center.

The event opened with remarks from Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter and Graduate Studies Dean Jeffery C. Gibeling, who welcomed this first group of fellowship winners.

Proud to be Green - UC Davis Center Develops Innovative Cooling Technologies

The Western Cooling Efficiency Center (WCEC), located in the West Village section of the UC Davis campus, was established in 2007 through a grant from the California Clean Energy Fund and in partnership with California Energy Commission Public Interest Energy Research Program. The Center strives to reduce energy demand and water consumption in housing and buildings by collaborating with industry leaders to develop new, innovative and efficient cooling technologies.

Meet McNair Scholars Program New Outreach Coordinator and Adviser – Jacques Bowyer

When a student goes to a mentor or an advisor, there needs to be a strong connection. The student should feel that the advisor not only has counseling experience, but life experiences much like their own. Jacques Bowyer embodies both.

Bowyer, the new McNair Scholars Program outreach coordinator and advisor at UC Davis, first became interested in counseling as an undergraduate student after transferring to the University of Arizona from a community college. “I took some counseling courses over one summer, and realized I had an interest for it,” says Bowyer.

Landscape Architecture Students Design Sustainably

The Landscape Architecture Program hosted an event on April 19 in Hunt Hall to give eight UC Davis seniors and 11 graduate students from China a chance to pitch their proposals for developing the 44-acre Nishi Property on Davis' south side.
