Food scientist Ryan Dowdy wins UC Davis Grad Slam, will go to statewide tournament May 4

This year’s Interdisciplinary Graduate and Professional Student Symposium (IGPS) was a grand slam--or should we say, Grad Slam?

For the past five years the Graduate Student Association (GSA) at UC Davis has put together IGPS, a symposium of posters, panels, and performances, but this year included a new segment, the introduction of the Grad Slam competition. Our first-ever Grad Slam champion, food scientist Forrest “Ryan” Dowdy, will go forth to represent UC Davis at the UC-wide tournament event this upcoming Monday, May 4, 2015.

2015 IGPS Presentations - Compelling and Innovative As Ever

For the the fifth consecutive year, the Graduate Student Association (GSA) has successfully coordinated and hosted the Interdisciplinary Graduate and Professional Student Symposium (IGPS) at UC Davis. IGPS attracts a diverse group of students - as both participants and attendees - because of its creative, comprehensive and collaborative nature. The symposium features panels, presentations, performances, and art work, which often merge research topics that would otherwise seem incongruent.

April 2nd and 3rd marks the fifth consecutive year the Graduate Student Association (GSA) has hosted the Interdisciplinary Graduate and Professional Student Symposium (IGPS). This year, an exciting new competition, Grad Slam, will be incorporated throughout the two-day symposium. IGPS aims to allow graduate and professional students from all disciplines to perform and/or present their research to not only their colleagues but also the larger campus and community.

In addition to his teaching and administrative accomplishments in various institutions such as former positions as Provost of Columbia University, Dean of Stanford Graduate School of Education and Chair of the Department of Psychology at Stanford, Dr.

Third Annual Provost's Fellowship Award Ceremony

Since its inception in 2012, the Provost's Fellowship has allocated two million dollars of campus funding in order to award 50 graduate students a $25,000 stipend as well as remission of their tuition and fees for the year. All recipients are given this prestigious award based on their academic excellence and progressive research in their respective fields of study. The objective of the fellowship is to enhance the recipients' experience at UC Davis by giving them more opportunities to focus on their coursework and research.

Claude Steele to Speak on Stereotype Threat for the Mentoring at Critical Transitions Series

The new year’s first Mentoring at Critical Transitions (MCT) event on January 22 will feature UC Berkeley’s Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Dr. Claude Steele. He will address stereotype threat within the context of mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. The event will also introduce the new MCT Fellowship, a competitive award program for faculty and their graduate student mentees. This MCT event will take place at the University Conference Center, Ballrooms A - C, from noon to 2:00 p.m.
